So i ve never gotten around to making a door hinge jig to simplify the process. Mark the center of the hinge s barrel on the jig face photo below. So this jig is consisted by two parts. Using a jig by doug stowe as inspiration i built a few of my own.

Mark correct placement of all hinges needs to match up with the ones on the door then using the mortising template route the mortises on the door frame. A small to carry jig was all i wanted. Mark the placement of all hinges making sure to factor in the 1 8 gap that will be between the door and top of the door frame.

In my own work i m typically faced with hanging a single door two at the most in a given project. Plus the concealed hinge jig works with an ordinary drill and the included carbide tipped. Use a pencil to mark the jig along the door s ends. Make cabinet door installation easy.

While a 1 2 hole will accommodate those hinges a cabinet door with a radiused edge will be ruined if you drill 1 2. This jig is great for a large percentage of cup hinge intallations but misses the mark for many installations. A lot of hinges need only a 7 16 hole. Then cut a piece of plywood to 4 1 2 wide and the exact length of the jig face to make the support arm. This jig will drill a hole 1 2 in depth and no less. If you have to create door hinges of the same size or different sizes you can make use of door hinge jigs to make your job easier. By using a door hinge jig you can make the installation of a door a breeze it just takes almost all the guess work out of the way with the end result being excellent flush cuts.

A hinge jig can be extremely valuable especially to people that are working with doors and cabinets on a daily basis. Then cut along those lines to bring the jig to final length. But in a classroom situation a little bit of set up pays big dividends.
