Make Carpet Seams Invisible

They say seams may not be invisible that doesn t mean you shouldn t make every effort to reach that goal.

Make carpet seams invisible.

Unlevel seams in the carpet. Wide gaps and overlaps. The very definition of seam is a line formed by the joining together of two pieces of material at their edges. But a good carpet installer will be able to place it in such a way it has minimal impact.

Do not apply too much as you only want to cover the spot that the seam itself is located at. Add a seam sealer material around the backing area or the floor base. A seam should have the carpet backings flush to each other without gaps and without. Gaps are left at the end of the seams.

There are ways to make them almost. In fact it is advisable for the sales person to tell the consumer in advance of the installation that the seams cannot be guaranteed invisible. Failure to explain why a carpet seam is not guaranteed to be invisible. Seams are visible especially when you know where they are.

As an inspector it is my job to inspect the seam and make a determination about whether it was constructed in accordance with the industry standard. In addition proper planning for seam placement in a room is key to making seams less obtrusive or obvious. I sometimes see heat distortion from the hot irons think about it the shape of it underneath the carpet angles it upward could be enough to change its memory for certain lighting to be an eye catcher. While invisible carpet seams are not always possible it is the goal of many great installers to construct invisible seams.

The reality is that carpet seams are unavoidable. Different carpets will seam differently. Depending on the size and traffic of a room you can choose carpets where seams will be less noticeable. While it is impossible to make seams completely invisible choosing certain carpet types and patterns can draw attention away from seams making them less noticeable.

Carpet seaming is done in more obvious spots. The key word there is line. While an invisible carpet seam is not possible there are many times when a carpet seam has been constructed incorrectly and is much more visible than it should be. While some carpets hide it better than others it is important to realize that seams will never be invisible.

Failure to match any patterning in the carpet. The term acceptable seam does not mean invisible seam. Sealing them as well.
